How many times a person posts is irrelevant. People post to forums when they want to discuss and/or debate topics. I just posted before to see if you would reply, and you did. Do you work for Adobe, are you a fanboy or are obsessive compulsive? Anytime someone says anything to contradict LR you quickly jump in & defend it's honor.

I can't really take anyone seriously who has posted about 27 times in the same thread. Like I said I would rather spend my time shooting images than fixing images. You can set up Lightroom to do the same thing.Īnd if you want to start your edits with a flatter image, C1P can easily do by using a linear curve instead. There's nothing wrong with starting with a better looking more finished image from the start since it can all be changed. Outside of say possible color differences/preferences, Lightroom is not failing to process correctly since it is not proecessing at all beyond a minor amount of sharpening and color only noise reduction. I prefer C1P because I love photography & prefer to spend my creative time taking pictures than fixing images my raw converter failed to process correctly from the start. Regardless of what anyone says on this topic try them both for your self & pick whichever fit your needs better. I would suggest you consider shooting JPGs instead. The less editing I have to do but with the option to do as much as I wants suits me better. Having compared the two I will be moving forwards with C1. I know this is subjective but the files in C1 seem to be much closer to what my eye saw in terms of colour as well as having more clarity and sharpness.

The whole point of working with RAW is to have full control over the development of your images. That's a fact, hence the flat look you mentioned above. I am however quite impressed on what I am seeing from C1. Lightroom 6 (or even 5 perhaps?) may have a different raw processing engine than Lightroom 4 or Adobe DNG Converter in which case I may be doing Lightroom an injustice. It would if the C1 files were over processed and you had to take it back quite a bit to get to the more neutral LR look but in my view you don't.

Some may say this is because Lightroom leaves more choice to the user and does far less processing than C1 does straight out of the camera. The files in Lightroom look flat by comparison. There is no doubt in my mind comparing a number of different photos (indoors, outdoors, portrait, landscape, high ISO) that C1 provides a slightly richer, sharper and more natural look than what Lightroom does.

I could download a free trial of Capture One and I probably will but any new software will take a learning curve ad it will be useful for me to know from those who already know and have used both products.Īlthough I currently use Lightroom 4.4 which doesn't support the raw files from my new camera, I have compared some raw files straight out of the camera between Lightroom and C1.Ĭ1 supports the raw files and I have used Adobe's DNG converter to convert the raw files and then import them into Lightroom. The easy route would be to go with LR as I am familiar with its layout and how it functions, however it seems from reading and watching video reviews that Capture One has a lot of fans who believe that straight out of the camera RAW processing is a lot better the LR and the images are considerably sharper and more detailed to begin with.

I either upgrade to version 6 of Lightroom when it is out or I buy Capture One. My new camera, the Olympus EM-5 Mark ii is not supported by Lightroom 5 and will be supported by 6. I am currently a user of Lightroom 4 and have used Lightroom for a while now since version 3.
